(KPL) The Laos Energy Efficient Data Center (LEED) has been handed over to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The handover ceremony took place on 26 Oct between Director General of the Technology Digital Department, Ministry of Science and Technology Keolakhone Sysoulien and New Energy and Industrial Development Organisation (NEDO) Sumiya Kisanuki in the presence of Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdara, Japanese Ambassador to Laos Takeshi Hikihara and relevant officials.
In January, 2016, NEDO signed in Vientiane a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Lao PDR for the Joint Crediting Mechanism Demonstration Project.
The project has conducted technology demonstration of operating systems appropriate to environments in the Lao PDR and CO2 emission reduction verification under the JCM, introducing a high-quality and energy-efficient container-type data center which is the first full-fledged one in the Lao PDR, according to Mr Keolakhone Sysoulien.
Since September 1, 2017, the center has been providing service to the government agencies including developing an email system using “gov.la” code, registering 705 accounts, creating an Own Cloud and establishing Web Hosting System with 26 websites registered.
At the event, Minister Boviengkham also presented congratulation certificates to experts and staff of NEDO and local officials in recognition of their contribution to the implementation of the project.
