(KPL) International Finance Corporation – IFC – a member of World Bank Group, will host a large-scale workshop for representatives of small and medium enterprises and financial experts to discuss how to help local SMEs better access finance.
Scheduled for Nov 20, 2018, the workshop will be organized in cooperation with the Bank of the Lao PDR, according to Head of IFC Laos Office Phongsavanh Phomkong.
The workshop is expected to be attended by almost 200 representatives of local SMEs, financial experts and executives from the Bank of the Lao PDR and financial institutes in South Asia and China.
The organizing of the workshop was initiated after the visit to the Lao PDR by IFC CEO Philippe Le Houérou in July 2017 whose observations suggested that access to finance remains a major challenge for SMEs in the Lao PDR.
“Our discussion for this time will be more comprehensive looking at what efforts have been made by relevant sectors, what achievements have been made. The topics we are going to discuss include favourable SME environment and tools, digital finance, which is popular in many countries, FinTEx for instance. We will take a look at if FinTex can be used in the Lao PDR and what solutions can ease SMEs’ access to finance,” said Mr Phongsavanh.
