(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has attended the 33rd ASEAN Summit and related summits being held in Singapore between Nov 11-15.
The ASEAN Summit was opened on Nov 13 under the theme “’Resilience and Innovation”.
ASEAN leaders discussed building resilient and innovative ASEAN Community to ensure ASEAN is resilient and can cope with challenges timely amid the era of digital economy and the 4.0 industrial revolution where technology can enjoy rapid growth.
They noted that relevant sectors have attached importance to implementing ASEAN Vision 2025, ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint, ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan III and ASEAN Connectivity Master Plan 2025.
ASEAN Leaders also agreed to continue to strengthen its external cooperation to create favourable conditions for building ASEAN Community and for the protection of peace, security, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.
The leaders also exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest especially the situation in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula which have developed positively thus proving a positive trend for building peace and security in the region. They also noted the progress in implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
They also adopted 7 documents including those on ASEAN Smart Cities Network work plan, consular assistance for ASEAN citizens in the third countries; the promotion of the right of people with disabilities, the promotion of green jobs for equality and inclusive growth of the ASEAN Community.
