(KPL) Eleven new Japanese volunteers dispatched to Laos on Feb 4 paid a courtesy call to Mr Kuno Kazuhiro, Minister of Japan to the Lao PDR before they begin their volunteerism in the country.
The Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs) have been newly dispatched to Laos by JICA for two years of volunteerism.
Based upon the requests from numerous recipient organizations, the volunteers will be assigned to the following provinces: Vientiane Capital, Vientiane province, Savannakhet, Luang Namtha, Xieng Khuang, Champassak, Borikhamxay, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang.

Adding together the number of new volunteers who arrived this month and those who are currently working side-by-side with their Lao counterparts throughout the country, the number of JICA volunteers has increased to 46 people (43 JOCVs and 3 SVs). Theses volunteers will continue to help establishing and fostering friendship and understanding through the technical transfer of knowledge and skills, and the sharing of their experiences.
Since 1965, over 1,000 JICA volunteers have been dispatched throughout Laos in various fields, including health, education, agriculture, engineering, sports, and community development.
The dispatch of this latest group of volunteers represents the commitments of the Japanese government to vigorously pursue its positive contribution to the social and economic development of the Lao PDR.
