China plans to support Laos in the field of statistics aiming to develop the capacity and knowledge of local government officials as part of a cooperation agreement between the two nations.
China will first send statistical experts to Laos to enhance the sharing of technical experience with Lao government officials in the sector ahead of the signing of a cooperation agreement at the end this year, Vice President of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Ning Jizhe confirmed to Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Souphanh Keomixay before an official cooperation meeting at the ministry in Vientiane this week. During the meeting, Dr Souphanh Keomixay highlighted the importance of the growing cooperation between Laos and China.
“We would like to thank and welcome the cooperation aimed at strengthening the coordination and mutual support of the parties in implementing development projects including statistics, as well as providing bases for the enhancing and development of the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between China and Laos.
This additional cooperation will contribute to strengthening comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties,” he said. Another goal of the initiative is to seek cooperation with regional and international bodies for assistance with funding and personnel exchanges in statistical research and related fields, especially as these constantly continue to develop.
Several years ago, the Ministry of Planning identified the development of human resources in the statistics field as a priority.
