Laos and Vietnam have agreed to further their great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with the signing of nine cooperation agreements.
The agreements were signed in Vientiane yesterday during a goodwill visit to Laos by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, from February 24-25, in response to an invitation from his Lao counterpart, President Bounnhang Vorachit.
The nine agreements were signed following a bilateral meeting and related to financial cooperation, construction of the Vientiane-Vung Ang railway, and electricity and mines development, while other agreements relevant to cooperation between the two countries were also signed, witnessed by the Lao and Vietnamese presidents.
During the meeting, President Bounnhang welcomed and expressed great appreciation for the goodwill visit to Laos by President Nguyen Phu Trong, and for choosing Laos for his first foreign visit after taking office as the President of Vietnam.
President Bounnhang stressed that the visit by President Nguyen Phu Trong was an important contribution to the promotion of friendship, special solidarity and the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
President Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his thanks for being honoured with a warm welcome from high-ranking officials of the Party-State and the Lao people on his first visit to Laos after taking office as the President of Vietnam.

The two sides also discussed future cooperation in ways that would foster and develop the special ties between the two countries to a higher level.
According to a joint statement, the two sides agreed to foster effective cooperation in economics, culture, education, public health, science and technology, defence and security, and to prevent illegal border trade.
