DPRK accuses ROK of flying drone in its airspace

AsiaDPRK accuses ROK of flying drone in its airspace

PYONGYANG/SEOUL – The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) accused The Republic of Korea of violating its airspace by flying a drone on Sunday, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Saturday.

The Korean People’s Army on Sunday spotted and tracked an air target moving northward over the area of Inchon of the ROK. The DPRK units struck it with special electronic warfare assets and forced it to fall into a place near Kaesong Municipality, a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army was quoted as saying in a statement.

The drone was set to conduct photographic surveillance of the DPRK’s major objects while flying over multiple places within the country’s territory, said the statement.

The video data obtained from the cameras served as clear proof that the drone violated the DPRK territorial airspace for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes, it said.

The ROK’s defense minister said Saturday that Pyongyang’s claim of a “drone infiltration” does not involve any drone model possessed by the ROK’s military.
