Former Malaysian prime minister was brought to the hospital Tuesday morning after suffering a fall, according to his office.
The centenarian, who served twice as prime minister, was taken in by ambulance and arrived at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at around 9:30 am, his spokesman Sufi Yusoff said.
“He had a fall early this morning and normally that requires an observation,” said Sufi. “He was conscious.”
Mahathir has been in and out of hospital for the past few years, and has suffered several heart attacks. He led Malaysia for nearly a quarter century in two different stints before infighting led to his abrupt resignation as prime minister in 2020. He lost in the 2022 general election.
