Paris prosecutor appoints magistrates to probe potential French links in Epstein files

WorldParis prosecutor appoints magistrates to probe potential French links in Epstein files

PARIS – The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Saturday that it has appointed magistrates to analyze evidence that could potentially implicate French nationals following the publication in the United States, French media reported.

The prosecutor’s office said it is working to examine the newly released US documents in coordination with the national financial prosecutor’s office and in liaison with the national directorate of the judicial police in order to open investigations if necessary, according to French daily Le Monde.

The prosecutor’s office also announced it is conducting a comprehensive reanalysis of the investigation file involving Jean-Luc Brunel, a former modeling agent and associate of Epstein.

Le Monde said that the case concerning Brunel had previously been closed with no further action after his death at the age of 75 in February 2022. Brunel, who had been placed in pretrial detention since December 2020, was found hanged in his prison cell.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the objective of the renewed review is to extract any material that could be usefully re-examined in a new investigation.
