The Government of the Lao PDR has approved the establishment of the “State Enterprise for Standards Inspection and Product Quality Certification Co., Ltd.” as a joint venture between the Department of Standards and Metrology under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Lao Standard Control Co., Ltd.
The enterprise will operate under a shareholding structure of 51% by the state and 49% by the private sector. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the national quality infrastructure, enhancing standards inspection and product certification systems, and ensuring alignment with international standards to support the advancement of Lao products into global markets.
The signing ceremony took place on July 24, 2026, in Vientiane Capital, in the presence of senior government officials and representatives from relevant sectors, reflecting a significant step toward reinforcing consumer protection, ensuring public safety, and building confidence in goods produced, imported, exported, and distributed within the country.
