Mexican president says to keep shipping oil to Cuba as humanitarian aid

WorldMexican president says to keep shipping oil to Cuba as humanitarian aid

MEXICO CITY – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her government’s commitment to supporting on Wednesday, confirming oil shipments to the island will continue under a humanitarian aid policy designed to improve the living conditions of the Cuban people.

“If Mexico can help improve conditions for Cuba, we will always be there. It’s a relationship with the Cuban people in conditions of much hardship,” Sheinbaum said during her morning press conference.

Sheinbaum noted that the aid for Cuba transcends ideologies and has been the standard policy of successive administrations.

“Mexico has maintained relations with Cuba under every government because it is for the Cuban people. When there is an extreme blockade, people experience hardship,” she stressed.

She reiterated that the aid “is a matter of Mexico’s foreign policy and reflects the character of Mexicans, and there’s no reason why that should stop.”
