AsiaCambodia: Thailand requests to postpone border meeting for 2nd time

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia said on Wednesday that Thailand has requested to postpone a special meeting on border demarcation for the second time.

Cambodia on Jan 5 re-proposed to Thailand to convene a special meeting of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) of the two countries in the second or third week of this month in Siem Reap province.

The re-proposal “has been requested to be postponed for the second time by the Thai side, for reason of finalization of its internal procedures required to appoint a new composition of the JBC (Thai side) after the formation of a new following the General Election in early February,” said a press release from the Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Border Affairs.

The press release said that while awaiting the upcoming special meeting of the JBC, Cambodia once again on Tuesday requested the Thai side to dispatch the Joint Survey Teams (JSTs) of both sides to resume the work of the joint survey and emplacement of the temporary markers on some boundary segments on any suitable date between Jan 19 and 30.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate on Dec 27 after three weeks of armed conflict, which caused casualties on both sides.
