The governments of Laos and Vietnam have joined hands to invest more than VNĐ290 billion to build an irrigation system in Xiengvang village of Nongbok district in Khammuan province.

Last week, the vice president of Khammuan province’s administration committee, Mr Dedsackda Manykham, officials from Ha Tinh province of Vietnam and other officials surveyed the construction of the irrigation project in Xiengvang.

The irrigation project will cost more than VNĐ290 billion, and the Vietnam government has provided more than 263 billion Dong as a grant, while the Lao government has contributed more than 27 billion Dong.

The people’s committee of Ha Tinh province in Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Khammuan province will be the joint owners of this project.

Work on the project started in May 2022, and it included the installation of five water pumps and an electricity network, and the construction of 500 metres of embankment, 1.7 km of water pipes, an irrigation channel that is 21.4 km long, and a concrete road that is 6.8 km long.

This project covers the four villages of Xiengvang, Songmeuangneua, Songmeuangtai and Khoudchap in Nongbok district, and 3,446 people from 777 families will benefit from this project.
