AsiaHamas says ready to dissolve its government bodies

GAZA – Hamas announced on Saturday that it has decided to dissolve all its government bodies in the Gaza Strip, in preparation for handing over responsibilities to an independent administrative committee currently being formed.

Hamas spokesman said in a statement that it made a “clear decision” to end all governmental entities overseeing affairs in Gaza and transfer their duties to an independent technocratic committee.

On Thursday, Qassem said that Hamas is awaiting the formal announcement of the committee that will be responsible for managing various sectors in the Gaza Strip, following an agreement between Hamas and other Palestinian factions on its establishment.

Since 2007, Hamas has run government institutions in Gaza following fighting with Fatah, which runs the . The result led to the coastal enclave, home to more than two million people, being governed separately.

According to sources within Hamas, Cairo is scheduled to host a Hamas delegation next week to discuss the second phase of the ceasefire agreement with Israel and to finalize a consensus on the members of the administrative committee.

A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has been in effect since October 2025. Its first phase included an exchange of prisoners and detainees, the entry of humanitarian aid, and a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from some areas of the Gaza Strip.

The proposed second phase includes a complete military withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, the launch of large-scale reconstruction, and the formation of a transitional governing body to administer the enclave.

In December 2025, US President Donald Trump said he intended to push for the rapid implementation of the second phase, stressing that the disarmament of Hamas is a key condition for moving forward with the agreement.

4 killed in Israeli army fire

At least four Palestinians were killed on Sunday by Israeli army fire across Gaza and in southern West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.

One Palestinian was killed in the al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, where the Israeli army had previously withdrawn, said a medical source at al-Ahli Baptist Hospital and local eyewitnesses.

Two Palestinians were killed in the Bani Suheila area, east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, as the Israeli army targeted with heavy weapons several civilians attempting to reach their homes, said a medical source at Nasser Hospital and local security sources.

Another Palestinian, a 58-year-old Shaker Falah Ahmed al-Ja’bari, was killed in the Khallat Hadour area of Hebron, southern West Bank, as his vehicle was targeted by the Israeli army on an alleged car-ramming attack attempt, said the Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority and local eyewitnesses.

They said the Israeli army prevented Palestinian Red Crescent crews from reaching the man after he was attacked.

Meanwhile, Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas told Xinhua that the Israeli army stormed Nablus, northern West Bank, deploying large military reinforcements around the area.

Since an Israel-Hamas ceasefire took effect on Oct 10, 2025, Gaza’s death toll has risen to 442 with 1,236 injuries, Gaza-based health authorities said Sunday. Rescue teams have recovered 688 bodies during that period. In the broader conflict, at least 71,412 Palestinians have been killed and 171,314 wounded since Israel’s military campaign in Gaza began in October 2023.

In the meantime, the Israeli army has carried out operations in the West Bank almost on a daily basis. It usually called these operations “anti-terrorism” measures aimed at Palestinian militants or individuals perceived as a threat to Israel.
