ROK forms investigation body to probe DPRK’s claims of drone infiltrations

AsiaROK forms investigation body to probe DPRK's claims of drone infiltrations

SEOUL – The Republic of Korea formed a military-police investigation body to probe the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s claims of the ROK’s drone infiltrations, Yonhap news agency said Monday.

The National Office of Investigation of the National Police Agency announced that a task force of around 30 members, which comprised 20 police officers and 10 military personnel and led by the director of the security investigation bureau, launched its investigation to uncover the truth behind the DPRK’s claims.

The Ministry of National Defense said the ROK’s military did not possess such drones, vowing to thoroughly investigate the possibility of them being civilian drones.

The investigation body was formed after ROK President Lee Jae-myung ordered an investigation by a joint military-police team on Saturday.

Lee stressed that if true, the infiltration of civilian drones would be a grave crime threatening national security and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
